Commenting on the reception, Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt said: "It was pretty special. I have been overawed by the incredibly positive reaction we've had.
"I think the lads have done a fantastic job. And when I say the lads, I include all the backroom staff in that as well.
"Talking to some of them, they've never had the opportunity to be here (at Farmleigh House) and they've been in Ireland for nearly 50 years some of them.
"So for them to come along and feel part of Irish history is fantastic."
Ireland captain Paul O'Connell added: "The reaction to the team was great - and when we came back into Dublin Airport, that was another incredible day. The guys are really enjoying it."
Ministers for Sport, Leo Varadkar and Michael Ring, made speeches during the event at Farmleigh as did IRFU President Pat Fitzgerald and Ireland team manager Michael Kearney.
There was also a special moment for scrum half Isaac Boss as he was formally presented with his Six Nations winners' medal by Paul O'Connell.
