Buccaneers RFC are hosting '7s in the City' - a one-day all-Women's Sevens rugby tournament at Dubarry Park, Athlone on Saturday, May 31. The event starts at 1pm and supports Action Breast Cancer.
Three competitions are planned for the day - Open, Junior and Under-18s. Entry fee for the Open event is €200 per squad of 12 players and a prize fund of €2,000 is on offer, with €1,500 for the winners and €500 to the runners-up.
The entry fee to the Junior competition is €120 per squad where a first prize of €800 is at stake with €200 going to the runners-up. Lunch is included in the registration fee, and there will be a 'goody bag' for each player.
The Women's Open sponsors are Michael Moore Car Sales, Athlone,with Smith's Supervalu, Athlone, being the title sponsors.
Action Breast Cancer is benefiting from the tournament and all squads are invited to nominate a team member to dye her hair pink on the day!
There will be a variety of prizes also, including for the team with the wackiest socks. Activities will include a bouncy castle, so if you have children, bring them along.
There will be a pig on the spit too. So come along and enjoy the fun and sport - Carrie and Samantha might be there too!
