Ashbourne To Host Women's RBS 6 Nations Games
By Editor
Ashbourne RFC is delighted with being awarded the chance to host Ireland's home games in the 2010 RBS Women's 6 Nations Championship. It is seen as recognition of the investment in the club facilities over the past few years.

Ashbourne RFC boasts three all-weather floodlit pitches. The main pitch is complete with two covered spectator stands. The club also has 2 floodlit astro pitches that are available to the community.

It is thanks to the club executive and members, Meath County Council and the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism for the support in implementing the club development plans, which is benefiting 300-plus players from the age of 6 to senior level.

Being community-based, Ashbourne RFC has assisted other local clubs in the use of the facilities. Ashbourne United FC has made arrangements to play their home games at Milltown. Other local clubs such as the GAA and the Special Olympics have also used the ground.

The IRFU and the Leinster Branch have recognised the quality of facilities through the use of the grounds by both Irish and provincial squads.

Last season, Ashbourne also hosted at short notice the Ireland v France RBS Women's 6 Nations tie, which was a great win for the Irish side, followed by the Provincial Towns Cup between Boyne and Tullamore.

Planning is now advanced for the Ireland women's first Championship game against Italy at Ashbourne RFC on Friday, February 5.
