A proficient lineout operator, RORY BEST made his Ireland debut as a replacement against New Zealand in November 2005, and also came off the bench against Australia during that autumn series.

Educated at Portadown College, the powerfully built Best showed immense promise during his second full season (2005/06) with Ulster, scoring two tries in five Heineken Cup appearances.

His leadership qualities have been recognised by Ulster with him being appointed the province's captain for the 2007/08 season. He was also voted Personality of the Year at last May's Ulster Rugby awards.

A member of the Irish squad at the 2003 Under-21 World Cup, Rory is a young brother of Ulster and Ireland prop Simon Best. His Ireland senior career really took off during the 2006/07 season.

Taking his chance while others were injured, he played in eight straight matches during the last campaign, scoring two tries against the Pacific Islanders and Wales to become first choice hooker and a cornerstone of the Irish pack.
